Athletica and KPLR 11 Announce Broadcast Agreement

ST. LOUIS (July 2, 2009) – Saint Louis Athletica of the new Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) league is proud to announce a local television broadcast agreement with KPLR 11 who will air two Athletica games this season. The two matches scheduled for broadcast are on Saturday, July 18 in Washington when Athletica visit RFK Stadium to face the Washington Freedom and Saturday, August 1 when Athletica host the Boston Breakers at The Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park.

“We are very proud to be partnering with KPLR 11,” said Saint Louis Athletica owner Jeff Cooper. “Being able to show Saint Louis Athletica soccer to our fans through local television is very exciting for us and for the sporting community here in our market.”

“KPLR 11 has a rich history of broadcasting local sports, and we’re thrilled to present the first local broadcast of Athletica soccer in St. Louis,” said Spencer Koch, President and General Manager of KPLR-TV and KTVI-TV. “The popularity of all levels of soccer in St. Louis is remarkable, and it’s time to give this sport some well-deserved recognition and exposure,” added Koch.

Prior to both games KPLR 11 Sports Director Rich Gould will host a 30-minute pre-game show with player and coaches interviews and exclusive features about the team.

The broadcast dates and times for the two matches are as follows:

Saturday, July 18 3:30 p.m. Pre-Game Show
4:00 p.m. Athletica @ Washington Freedom


Saturday, August 1 6:30 p.m. Pre-Game Show
7:00 p.m. Athletica vs. Boston Breakers
