Sky Blue FC Earns a Point on the Road Against Breakers

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. (July 25, 2009) – Sky Blue FC closed a hectic past two weeks with a 0-0 draw against the Boston Breakers at Harvard Stadium. The match was Sky Blue FC's fifth in the past 14 days with the team posting a 2-1-2 mark in that span.
Jenni Branam was stellar in goal for Sky Blue FC posting eight saves to record her sixth shutout of the season – the second best total in Women’s Professional Soccer.
The tie kept Sky Blue FC unbeaten against the Breakers with a 3-0-1 mark in the season series. Boston and Sky Blue FC remain in third and fourth, respectively, in the WPS standings. Boston moves to 7-6-4 for 25 points and Sky Blue FC is two points back at 6-7-5 for 23 points. Saint Louis Athletica (8-6-2, 26 pts.) and the Washington Freedom (5-6-5, 20 pts.) sandwich the two teams in the standings.

Most of the scoring chances came in the first half with Boston holding a 12-3 advantage in shots in the opening 45 minutes and a 16-7 edge for the game.
Branam made a big save on a volley from Maggie Tomecka in the 11th minute and then Angela Hucles struck the crossbar for the Breakers five minutes later. Branam stopped Jennifer Nobis in the 17th minute and then saved Kristine Lilly’s effort in the 25th minute.
