WPS Camps is pleased to introduce Portland, Oregon as their latest location.
This arrangement sets a new standard in support for the WPS Camp
program from the Oregon Youth Soccer Association, with over 55,000 players and 7,000 coaches and administrators. In conjunction with Portland club Southside Soccer, OYSA will offer
the WPS Camp August 17-21 at Cook Park (Fields 4 & 5), 16638 SW 92nd Ave.,
Portland, OR 97224.
Executive Director of OYSA Chuck Keers stated, "WPS Camps is a great
developmental opportunity for players in Oregon. About 45% of our players
are girls - roughly 25,000. Positive role models for women are extremely
important - and we wanted to support Women's Professional Soccer. What is
good for WPS is good for the youth game."
Southside Soccer Club of Tigard, OR (a Portland suburb) is one of the
state's most reputable clubs and has kindly offered to host the WPS Camp at
their club fields, Cook Park.
Southside Soccer Club U11 girls' coach and WPS Camps Regional Director
Stewart Boniface explained, "I have spent a lot of time reviewing and
crafting the best possible platform for WPS Camps in the Portland area and I
am delighted that the state has shown their support and that my own club
(SSC) can facilitate by providing the fields. It is a very exciting
opportunity for all the players in the area."
The University of Portland was home to numerous WPS stars: Tiffeny Milbrett
and Christine Sinclair of FC Pride; Red Stars' Megan Rapinoe; Stephanie Cox
and Lisa Sari of LA Sol; Sky Blue's Corrine Alexander and Mele French and
Angie Woznuk of the Saint Louis Athletica. Now that's quite a group!
