Sullivan County Soccer Association (SCOSA) in Kingsport, TN became the latest partner club to schedule a WPS Camp. WPS Camps will run from July 6-10 hosted by SCOSA at the Warriors Path State Park, Kingsport, TN.
Founded in 1978, SCOSA is a recreational soccer league which has over 450 spring players, 250 of which are girls, pre-k through U15. SCOSA does not want any child to be denied the chance to play due to financial reasons.
SCOSA also has a “sister” club, Fusion FC, for those children who wish to play soccer in the competitive arena. Similar to their Appalachian Fall Festival October 17th and 18th which has about 70 teams U9-U18, SCOSA will open their WPS Camp event to players from all surrounding clubs from TN -- Kingsport, Bristol, Johnson City, Elizabethton, Greeneville, Morristown, Knoxville and in VA -- Bristol, Abingdon, Glade Springs, Gate City.
When asked why they decided to host a WPS Camp, SCOSA Coach and Camp Coordinator Ronda Lane stated emphatically, “To promote girls' soccer! Having a WPS sponsored camp and the chance to have a player come and talk with the girls about their experiences is huge!”
Tennessee has been home to WPS players Keeley Dowling (Sky Blue FC) and Jaimel Johnson (Chicago Red Stars) who both attended the University of Tennessee, in nearby Knoxville.
