SAN FRANCISCO (Dec. 15, 2008) - The 2009 WPS Draft will be held Friday, January 16, 2009 at the NSCAA Convention in St. Louis and is open to the media and public. The WPS Draft is a multi-round draft for players who participated in either the WPS West Coast Combine or the WPS East Coast Combine (which includes players who will have just completed their NCAA eligibility), as well as any other undrafted players whose rights have not yet been assigned to a WPS team.

Draft Order

The selection order for the draft was determined via lottery in October:

1.            Boston Breakers
2.            Chicago Red Stars
3.            FC Gold Pride (Bay Area)
4.            Sky Blue FC (New Jersey/New York)
5.            Los Angeles Sol
6.            Saint Louis Athletica
7.            Washington Freedom

The draft order will follow the same pattern as the WPS General Draft with teams selecting in the order of 1-7, 7-1, 1-7, 7-1 until the draft is completed.

Process

    * 10 total rounds
    * Each team will have 3 minutes to announce their pick in the first two rounds
    * Each team will have 5 minutes to announce their pick in the last eight rounds
    * Each team can request a time-out per round
