LOS ANGELES SOL VS. CHICAGO RED STARS
The Sol and the Red Stars have faced each other two times this season. The first meeting between the teams came on June 3 and ended in a 1-1 tie. The first goal came in the 88th minute, when Chicago forward Christiane took a pass from Ella Masar and scored. It didn’t take long for Sol midfielder Camille Abily to answer back with a goal herself in the 90th minute. The two teams last faced each other June 27, when the Sol shut out the Red Stars 4-0. Shannon Boxx and Camille Abily each had one goal, while Marta finished with two.
LAST GAME RECAP
The Sol tied FC Gold Pride 0-0 on July 23 to secure the WPS regular season title and a berth in the August 22 WPS Championship at The Home Depot Center. Both teams had numerous shots on goal. Most notably was the shot by Han Duan in the 67th minute, which was blocked by Pride's Alison Whitworth. The FC Gold Pride had three shots on goal, but Sol's Karina LeBlanc was able to maintain the shutout.

Sol Capture WPS Regular Season Title
The Sol officially clinched the 2009 WPS Regular Season title on July 23. The 0-0 tie against FC Gold Pride was all they needed to earn them one point and a buy to the WPS inaugural Championship game on August 22 at The Home Depot Center. The Sol has just two games remaining on their regular season schedule and will then have two weeks to rest and prepare for their final match of the season.
The Sol Community
Members of the Sol will be making various appearances throughout the Southland during the month of August as they prepare to host the inaugural WPS Championship Game at The Home Depot Center. Sol players will be present at Fox and Hounds in Studio City on August 2 and 9. The players will meet and greet fans for one hour while watching the Sol play against the Chicago Red Stars (August 2) and the Boston Breakers (August 9). Additionally, select Sol players will be attending the Women in Sports Night at the Los Angeles Women's Tennis Championship on August 4, where they will sign autographs alongside members of the Los Angeles Sparks and AVP (female) players. One week later on August 11, the entire Sol team will attend a pep rally and will be present for a pre-game autograph session at Staples Center during that night's Sparks game. The Sol will then be present for an autograph session at the Los Angeles Lakers three-on-three basketball tournament on August 16 (players and times TBD). Additionally, Marta, Shannon Boxx and Karina LeBlanc will be present at the tournament to receive the WPS regular reason championship trophy from a league representative. Furthermore, Marta will throw out the first pitch at the Dodgers home game on August 17 against the St. Louis Cardinals. Additional community events may be added. Abily Away
The French international, who has made an incredible impact in midfield with the Sol, has the honor of representing her country in the UEFA Women's Euro tournament in Finland and will not participate in the WPS Championship Game on August 22 at The Home Depot Center. The team is looking at options for filling in the position that Abily will leave vacant.
