BOYDS, MD – September 28, 2009 - Coach Jim Gabarra and the Washington Freedom continue to strengthen the roster for the 2010 season.  Last week, the team exercised the options of the following players:

 

Cat Whitehill - 2010 option exercised

Lisa De Vanna – 2010 option exercised
Erin McLeod – 2010 option exercised
Sarah Huffman – 2010 option exercised
Rebecca Sauerbrunn – 2010 option exercised
Alexandra Long – 2010 option exercised
Jill Gilbeau – 2010 option exercised
Rebecca Moros – 2010 option exercised
Alexandra Singer – 2010 option exercised
Homare Sawa - 2010 mutual option exercised
Lene Mykjaland - Freedom retains international rights
Louisa Necib - Freedom retains international rights

 

Abby Wambach, who led the offense with 8 goals, will be returning for 2010 along with the defensive power, Cat Whitehill, midfield powerhouse Sonia Bompastor, and goalkeeper, Briana Scurry.

 

The team waived the options of Emily Janss, Parissa Eyorokon, and Kati Jo Spisak, allowing them to become free agents.

 

The Freedom ended the season playing in the inaugural WPS playoffs and looks to improve their record during the 2010 season.
