Q: Granted the game against Los Angeles was a draw but you did post a shut out.
A: Yes we did and we are proud of that. We did create the opportunities at the offensive end but we can’t seem to find the net. Right now we are working hard on our finishing so come our game at Washington we can put it in the back of the net.
Q: You had two good chances that came your way as you came up from the backline.
A: The thing is that I am playing defense now and I am so excited I get to go up and get those chances. I had two opportunities and I should have put them away. I love to get those chances and I’ll make the next ones count.
Q: You’re a veteran on this squad and have seen a lot of things so how is the team holding up through this goal-scoring drought?
A: I look to Lori Chalupny and I look to Hope Solo. They say “we got this” and I want people to look to me the same way. Lori Chalupny is such a leader and I am feeding off of her and Hope Solo. I look to Jorge Barcellos as well and see that he has faith and confidence in us. You want to see that your teammates have that look in their eyes that says they believe that we’ll get it done.
Q: You are now playing in the center of the defense, sliding into the middle from right back.
A: I love it. I love playing next to Kia McNeill because she is a force. It is great to have Hope Solo behind me directing the play. Our backline was solid against LA. This position is bringing out a different player in me. You have to have a fire in you, you have to have some extra you can bring out and I like that.
Q: Do you own a mini-van?
A: I told my husband that I will not own a mini-van. I have a Honda Pilot and it fits everyone just fine. I am not going to lie, mini-vans are convenient and you can fit a lot of stuff in them but I told my husband Brad never!
Q: Ultimate soccer mom, how do you like that description of yourself?
A: I am very proud of that description because it’s true. I get to play on the field as a pro and I get to drive my daughter to her games and scream and shout and they get to come to mine and scream and shout. It’s the best of both worlds.
Q: Tina, you are just coming up on 27 years old. Do you realize your just hitting the prime years of your career?
A: I’m excited. Someone just told me that your later twenties are the years you come into your own in soccer and I was like ‘Yes!’ because I want to keep playing. Soccer has allowed me to do a lot of great things, I love to play, love my team, and feel good about where I ‘m at right now. I feel like I am 17 again. And I just reached a year out from having Mya last May. So I am recovered and fully back.
Q: On our website,
www.saintlouisathletica.com
, under your profile you list Days of our Lives as your favorite television show, followed by 24. Quite a contrast there!
A: Quite a contrast but Days of Our Lives is the best show on television. It has all the qualities you want, passion, revenge, and love…its drama at its best. It got me through my pregnancy. You’re at home all the time when your pregnant and it helped me pass the time. 24, I only watch because of Chalupny. She introduced me to it and I was instantly addicted and hooked. We watch it together. Jack Bauer is amazing he can do everything. Of course we watch all this on TIVO after Mya is asleep.
Q: How is your roommate handling a little toddler in her home?
A: Lori is the coolest roommate ever. We are trying to get Mya to say Chupa but it just comes out puh. So Lori is now “Puh.” Lori has decorated this house so well and now with Mya and I here everything is baby-proofed and doesn’t look as nice but she is cool with it and loves it. Now that Mya walks we sometimes we find her in Lori’s room.
Q: You have professed to be a good cook, would Lori Chalupny agree?
A: You have to ask her but I think the best thing she has liked so far is chicken fettucini alfredo. But I haven’t been cooking much. I have been lazy. Actually Lori cooks some great meals and I have been enjoying her making me dinner.
Q: Tina, St. Louis has no shortage of food. One of your teammates says she has already gained eight pounds. So where are you liking to eat out?
A: I am kind of a chain person and California Pizza Kitchen is my favorite restaurant but you can get that anywhere so that is boring. Annie Gun’s here in St. Louis is amazing. Delicious! I have been to the Italian district on “The Hill” and Zia’s is fantastic.
Q: You getting around okay?
A: I am getting around now great. I got St. Louis down pat now. Highway 44, 270, 170, 255, 55, I know them all.
Q: You said Albert Pujols is the most inspiring athlete in your opinion.
A: If I could meet him I would die. He is the epitome of a pro athlete. I will meet him, that’s my goal. He gives back to the community, gets his job down on the field, he is amazing.
