(August 2, 2011) - The
Philadelphia Independence announced today that the team has agreed to terms
with Widener University to renew its partnership to play its 2012 home games at
Leslie Quick Stadium.
"We are pleased
with the partnership [with Widener] and are happy to nail down our 2012 playing
venue so early," said Independence Owner/CEO, David Halstead. "This allows us to
begin renewing and selling season tickets for 2012, and discussing with
businesses opportunities for sponsorship. In addition, we can offer effective ticket pricing at the same levels we
did in 2011, and keep the fan experience affordable and exceptional. The game day atmosphere, in Widener's
intimate stadium, was great this year and we are grateful to the fans for
growing attendance. We anticipate
we will fill Widener to capacity every home game in 2012, as we filled it last
Sunday, as well as this Sunday in our final regular season home match. Last week's game against Atlanta
demonstrated that our fans have jumped on board with us in greater numbers in
support of the team. Our increased
support is so exciting that we will play our 2011 WPS playoffs at PPL Park in
August, and now have our sights set on PPL as our home game venue for the 2013
season - which is one year ahead of schedule."
2012 will be
the team’s second season playing at Widener. In its first year at the stadium,
the Independence earned a record of 10-3-3 with one remaining regular season
home game on August 7 at 6PM, as it continues to chase the first place finish in
the WPS standings.
“We look forward to continue our partnering with the Independence,” added Jack
Shafer, Widener University athletic director. “The Independence provides an
exciting game day experience for fans at Quick Stadium, and we look forward to collaborating
with the club on initiatives that contribute to the vitality and well-being of
the communities we serve.”
The
Independence is currently accepting $50 non-refundable season ticket deposits
for its 2012 home games. Fans can select their seat from several seating
categories and pricing options for all ten home games in the 2012 season. A
deposit can be placed online by clicking here, and
specific seat reservations can be made by calling an Independence sales
representative at 1-877-WPS-PHIL.
