Independence Hosts Arc of Philadelphia for Day of Friendship and Fun

August 18, 2010-- The Arc of Philadelphia is an organization committed to ensuring that people with intellectual disabilities are provided with quality services, support, and access to the community.

The Arc helps to provide job training support and advocacy services for disabled individuals, giving countless handicapped adults the tools to independent living.

Recently, the Independence and the Arc of Philadelphia teamed up for a celebration of friendship, sport and "independence" at United Sports Training Center in Downingtown.

"I can’t say enough about the way everybody on the team engaged our group"  said Director of Marketing and Development for the Arc, Mike Barnes.  "It was very special, and it means so much to our entire organization as a whole.  Thank you for giving up your valuable time and being so hospitable to us.  Not only will we continue to root for you, we are honored to be a part of your team!"

"It was so refreshing having them all out to practice" said Mitts of the group’s visit. "Mike Barnes has a huge heart and wanted to bring the group to experience a professional sports environment. They were cheering, were energetic the entire time, and I couldn’t stop smiling with the response.  It’s a great organization and one I hope to do more work with in the future."

The Arc group was treated to a tour of the Independence training facility, spent the morning watching practice and cheering on the team, and participated in a meet-and-greet autograph session with the entire Independence squad after training.  U.S. National Team and Independence defender Heather Mitts is an active volunteer with Arc of Philadelphia, and the Arc group came equipped with a "We Love Heather" poster to support their favorite player.

The Arc is an essential organization in the Philadelphia community that helps create a world of opportunity and choice for people with disabilities. If you want to help make a difference or get involved with the Arc, visit www.arcpddc.orgor call (215) 229-4550 to learn more!
