Sky Blue FC to Present 4th of July Celebration

On July 4 – the day that we celebrate our nation’s independence – Sky Blue FC will honor another historical event as members of the United States Women’s National Team that captured the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup championship make an appearance Yurcak Field.

Start your holiday with Sky Blue FC’s commemoration of a landmark achievement in women’s soccer. Sky Blue FC will take on the Boston Breakers on Saturday at Yurcak Field on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J. Fans that purchase Sky Blue FC’s Fourth of July Photo Offer package will have the unique opportunity to get their picture taken with USWNT champions Christie Rampone, Kristine Lilly, Saskia Webber, Sara Whalen, and coach Tony DiCicco, and the World Cup championship trophy after the game. Whalen and Webber, players on that championship team, will be in attendance as part of Women’s Professional Soccer’s Remembering ’99 Tribute, which is being held league wide. Rampone (Sky Blue FC) and Kristine Lilly (Boston Breakers) will be playing in the game with DiCicco serving as head coach of the Breakers.

The championship trophy from the 1999 World Cup will be on hand, courtesy of the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

Various events are scheduled to take place throughout the day. At 3:20 p.m., both Whalen and Webber will be signing autographs for fans at the National Soccer Hall of Fame table located next to the main grandstand. At halftime, Rutgers Women’s Soccer Head Coach Glenn Crooks will emcee the presentation of commemorative crystal pieces to the ’99 championship players by Sky Blue FC General Manager Gerry Marrone.
