BOCA RATON, FL (May 28, 2011) – MagicJack pulled off a 4-0 win over the Atlanta Beat Saturday evening in South Florida at the Florida Atlantic University soccer field. Over 860 fans came to the Memorial Day weekend game to get a last glimpse of some of the players before they trek overseas for the World Cup at the end of June.
The first half of the game was played on Atlanta’s side of the field. MagicJack started the game quickly with a fast tempo, pressuring the ball up top and making it hard for the Beat to get the ball out of their half. Abby Wambach had the first goal of the game in the eighth minute, 30 yards out and off of her right foot. Wambach chipped the ball over Atlanta’s goalkeeper, Alli Lipsher, who was caught off her line. Midfielder Sarah Huffman put the second goal in the back of the net in the 11th minute of the game. Huffman shot a low driven ball with her right foot that got past the keeper in the bottom left corner to round out the scoring of the first half.
Atlanta came into the second half with only one shot on goal compared to 10 of magicJack. Even with improvement in the final 45 minutes of the game the Beat could not come back from the 2-0 deficit, and magicJack continued to offensively dominate. They finished the game 4-0 thanks to Wambach putting two more goals in the back of the net for magicJack. Wambach’s second goal of the game was in the 66th minute as she took the ball on her own coming down the left side drilling the ball through the posts, and her final goal came in the 88th minute.
