FC Gold Pride Adds Two Games to Broadcast Schedule. Games will be aired regionally on Comcast SportsNet.
SANTA CLARA, CA (May 26, 2009)– In addition to the previously announced, nationally televised WPS Sunday Matches, FC Gold Pride and the Chicago Red Stars announce the addition of two games to the teams' 2009 broadcasting schedule.
Comcast SportsNet will televise the two remaining matches between the Pride and Red Stars this season, Sunday, June 7th at Santa Clara, Calif., and Sunday, July 12th in Bridgeview with games airing in both teams home markets. Visit www.csnbayarea.com and www.csnchicago.com for more information.
Dean Linke, former play-by-play voice of the WUSA's Carolina Courage, will serve as lead broadcaster for the Red Stars this season. A graduate of Ohio University, Linke served as a press officer for the U.S. Women's National Team in the early 1990's and is a regular in the broadcast booth, calling play-by-play for the NSCAA Men's and Women's College Game of the Week on Fox Soccer Channel as well as soccer for the Big Ten Network.
Joining Linke in the booth as an analyst is former U.S. Women's National Team member Danielle Slaton. Currently an assistant women's soccer coach at Northwestern University, Slaton is a five-year veteran of the national team including a member of the 2000 Olympics and 2003 World Cup teams. A number one overall draft pick in the 2002 WUSA draft, Slaton led the Carolina Courage to a championship and was named the league's defender of the year. The Santa Clara Alumna, three-time All-American helped the Broncos to a National Championship in 2001.
"I'm so happy to be given an opportunity to be a part of Women's Professional Soccer," said Danielle Slaton. "I'm especially excited to return to Santa Clara. Buck Shaw Stadium holds a lot of great memories for me, and I know fans will enjoy it even more when they see the world's best play there. I'm thrilled to see the excitement fans have shown about the WPS thus far, and look forward to helping to build upon that as we move forward."
See the best in the world take the field as WPS action continues this weekend when the Pride travels to Washington to take on the Freedom. The Red Stars will enjoy a break in the action with a bye week before heading to the west coast to face the Pride who defeated the Red Stars, 1-0 in their first meeting of the season.
