Beat cuts roster to 24 players heading into four exhibition games in Florida.
KENNESAW, GA (Mar. 15, 2010) – After a spirited first week of training and a 3-2 result at Auburn last week, the Atlanta Beat Women’s Professional Soccer team announced its first preseason cuts, trimming the roster down to 24 players.
With goals from McCall Zerboni, Shelley Thompson and Christine Latham Thursday night, the Beat defeated home-field Auburn, 3-2, in a preseason match without No. 1 draft pick Tobin Heath who is recovering from a stomach illness.
Heading into that preseason game, the Beat waived draft picks Shaneka Gordon of West Florida, Kasey Langdon from Oklahoma State, Jill Hutchinson of Wake Forest, and Amanda Poach of Santa Clara- acquired through a Dispersal Draft trade. Following the Auburn match, Sharolta Nonen and Christine Latham were also released.
The updated 24-player roster includes those listed below with the final 18-player roster and four developmental players announced on March 31.
The Beat now prepares for upcoming friendlies against the U-20 Women’s National Team, the University of Florida, Boston Breakers (WPS), and Florida State University during a week-long road trip in Florida beginning Friday, March 19.
